Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat will now be re-released in theatres on February 6, the makers said in a press note on Thursday. They had earlier set its re-release date for January 24. The historical-drama starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles.
As described in a press release shared by the makers, “The historical drama, based on the poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, tells the tale of Rani Padmavati’s legendary beauty, her defiance against the ruthless Sultan Alauddin Khilji, and her unyielding courage.”
Ranveer essayed the role of Khilji, while Deepika played Padmavati and Shahid played her husband Raja Ratan Singh.
Bhansali productions made the announcement on social media and wrote, “The epic saga re-releases on a new date - 6th February, 2025! Relive the iconic tale on the big screen.”
Padmaavat originally released on January 25, 2018 and was subject to a lot of controversy pre-release. Many Rajput organisations, like the Karni Sena, were against the portrayal of Padmavati in the film. In October 2017, some people even attacked and burned a set for the film in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur.
