Amidst a slew of re-releases, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 period-drama Padmaavat will also land in theatres again. The film, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, will re-release in theatres on January 24.
As described in a press release shared by the makers, “The historical drama, based on the poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, tells the tale of Rani Padmavati’s legendary beauty, her defiance against the ruthless Sultan Alauddin Khilji, and her unyielding courage.”
While Ranveer and Deepika played the roles Alauddin and Padmavati, Shahid essayed the role of Padmavati’s husband Raja Ratan Singh.
The film’s production banner Viacom18 Studios made the announcement on Instagram with a poster and captioned the post, “Witness the epic tale on the big screen again. #Padmaavat in cinemas on 24th January.”
Padmaavat originally released on January 25, 2018 and was subject to a lot of controversy pre-release. Many Rajput organisations, like the Karni Sena, were against the portrayal of Padmavati in the film. In October 2017, some people even attacked and burned a set for the film in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur.
