A second trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency was unveiled by the makers on Monday. Kangana, who has also directed the film, plays the role of former PM Indira Gandhi in it. The film also has an ensemble cast in the roles of important leaders during the 1975 Emergency. Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade is in the role of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Milind Soman plays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Emergency also features Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik.
The trailer opens with Anupam’s Jayaprakash Narayan sitting in jail and penning a letter to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. We then see Kangana, as Indira, declare an Emergency. When she is told that she needs prior approval of the Cabinet to take such a decision she says, “I am the Cabinet.” The trailer goes on to show the excesses done by Mrs. Gandhi as she declares a war and gets opposition party leaders arrested. She also has a rift with her son Sanjay Gandhi (played by Vishak). The trailer concludes with Kangana ominously declaring, “India is Indira and Indira is India.”
Emergency’s screenplay and dialogues have been written by noted screenwriter Ritesh Shah. The film is produced by Kangana, Renu Pitti and Umesh KR Bansal and is slated to release in theatres on January 17.
