Pankaj Tripathi shared his thoughts about the controversy surrounding YouTube Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks made on comedian Samay Raina’s show, India's Got Latent. Pankaj called for the need to be sensible when saying anything on the internet and also said that it should not be given much importance.

Speaking to Screen, Pankaj said, “The thing with the internet is that a lot of people become popular faces all of a sudden. They find name and fame, but where is the sensibility? Do they have the required intelligence, in terms of literary knowledge, social behaviour? Just because there is no clear censorship, it doesn’t mean you can say anything in the name of entertainment. See, it is okay to have fun saying nonsense, but it is not okay to have pride in uttering nonsense.”

He added, “Don’t give so much importance to all this. Anyone can get viral, but just like a viral illness, it will be there for a few days, and then we move on. The why and how of success determines a lot of things. Of course, I am not arguing about who is right or wrong but, if you have the power of the word, and people are influenced by what you are saying, then it is important you shoulder that responsibility with a lot of care.”

Ranveer appeared on Samay’s show recently and made controversial comments about parents. He said, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?”. The remark went viral on social media, inviting furious reactions from everyone.

A police complaint was also filed against the makers and participants of the show earlier this week for using abusive language and the matter is currently under inquiry. The National Commission of Women (NCW) also issued summons to Samay and others who came on the recent episode of the show.

Meanwhile, Ranveer issued an apology earlier this week and Samay took to social media on Wednesday to announce that he has removed all the episodes of his comedy show from YouTube.

Other Bollywood celebrities like Manoj Bajpayee, Imtiaz Ali, Rajpal Yadav, Boney Kapoor and A.R. Rahman have reacted to the controversy earlier.
