Comedian Samay Raina and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial video from the show India’s Got Latent has been blocked from YouTube after intervention from the government. Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India confirmed the video’s removal from the platform.
In a post on X, Kanchan wrote, “The ‘India Has Latent’ episode on YouTube with obscene and perverse comments by Ranveer Allahbadia has been blocked following Government of India orders.” She shared a screengrab from the video where a message from YouTube reads, “Video unavailable. This content is not available on this country domain due to a legal complaint from the government.”
The controversy erupted when Ranveer appeared on Samay’s show and made distasteful comments about parents. He said, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?”. The remark went viral on social media, inviting furious reactions from everyone.
After the criticism online, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a statement as he called for strict action against the makers of the show. Singer B Praak also criticised Ranveer for his comments and cancelled his appearance on his podcast.
In the middle of the controversy, Ranveer issued an apology on social media on Monday. He said, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my forte I am just going to say sorry.” He added, “I am not going to give any context or justification just want to give my apology. Had a lapse in my judgement. the podcast is watched by people of all age groups and don’t want to take that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would disrespect.”
A police complaint was also filed against the makers and participants of the show on Monday for using abusive language and the matter is currently under inquiry.
