Imtiaz Ali and Manoj Bajpayee have opened up about Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial comments on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. Imtiaz said that the mistakes of some immature people shouldn’t be taken seriously, while Manoj reflected on the need to stay informed in today’s times.
Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Imtiaz said, “Fame that comes in a short time also goes away quickly. I feel people should do what they enjoy doing, but obscenity is a subject that looks bad and anyone would agree, but people are immature, so their mistakes should not be taken seriously.”
Manoj agreed with Imtiaz and added, “Success should be safeguarded so we can truly enjoy it. That’s why we need to stay informed. That’s why I tell everyone to read the newspaper.”
Both Manoj and Imtiaz have appeared on Ranveer's podcast on YouTube in the past.
The controversy erupted when Ranveer appeared on Samay’s show and made distasteful comments about parents. He said, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop?”. The remark went viral on social media, inviting furious reactions from everyone.
In the middle of the controversy, Ranveer issued an apology on social media on Monday. He said, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my forte I am just going to say sorry.” He added, “I am not going to give any context or justification just want to give my apology. Had a lapse in my judgement. the podcast is watched by people of all age groups and don’t want to take that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing I would disrespect.”
Meanwhile, YouTube has removed the video from its platform after government intervention. A police complaint was also filed against the makers and participants of the show on Monday for using abusive language and the matter is currently under inquiry.
