It has been 24 years since the release of director Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham..., featuring a star-studded ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, and Kajol, among others. One of the most interesting facts about the film is that Karan Johar signed all the aforementioned actors for it in one single day! Recently, Karan told Pinkvilla that he wanted to work with Shah Rukh, Amitabh, Jaya, Hrithik, Kajol and Kareena on one film and that he met each of them to narrate the story. Karan said that Shah Rukh and Kareena signed on for the film without even listening to the story as well as that Kajol, Amitabh and Jaya all agreed to do the project without any hesitation. Then, the filmmaker paid a visit to Hrithik Roshan before the latter's debut film even hit theatres. "Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai had not released, but I had a lot of faith in him," Karan said about Hrithik before revealing that the actor was delighted and excited to be part of the project.
"It was the best day of my life," Karan said about landing all the aforesaid actors for the film over a single day. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... emerged as a major box office winner and became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2001, alongside Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
The film tells the story of a rift between a family's patriarch (Amitabh) and his son (Shah Rukh) for the latter's decision to marry a woman (Kajol) without his permission. KKKG is still remembered for its performances, songs, Shah Rukh's entry scene from a helicopter, and more factors.
