There has been plenty of discourse around the validity and relevance of film reviews after many of them shared negative opinion on Aditya Dhar's latest film Dhurandhar, featuring a star-studded ensemble that includes Ranveer Singh. Some audiences who liked the film have been attacking some of those reviewers on social media, especially those who are more popular than others, over the last few days. Subsequently, many shared their thoughts about the issue in relation to the Dhurandhar movie reviews. Take Raj Kundra, for example.
The businessman took to social media the other day and opined, "With all due respect, stop giving film critics so much power. If you like an artist or a trailer excites you don’t wait for a critic to tell you what to think." He also claimed, "Most reviews today are bought, sold, and recycled." The businessman, who is married to actor Shilpa Shetty, recommended that the audience watch films with their family and friends and criticise them on their own volition. "Be the real critic...," he urged the audience.
While Raj never mentioned Dhurandhar in his post, his opinion comes at a time when reviewers who criticised the film are facing flak for it. Interestingly, Raj also shared his two cents on the South Indian Cinema versus Hindi Cinema debate that has been happening on the internet over the last few months. Lately, there has been a popular sentiment that the quality of Hindi films is dwindling and that films made in South India are superior, especially in the storytelling department. According to Raj Kundra, "Hindi cinema is struggling," whereas films in South India are thriving because audiences there "stand in solidarity with their actors". He believes that Hindi cinema "will make a true comeback" if audiences here follow in on the south audiences' footsteps.
