Sunidhi Chauhan opened up about her song, ‘Kaisi Paheli Zindagani’ from the film Parineeta as the film is up for re-release on August 29. Sunidhi shared that she had no idea that the veteran actor Rekha would be performing in the song when she recorded it.

Speaking about it, Sunidhi said, “’Kaisi Paheli Zindagani’ was such a unique and refreshing song for me. The song had this beautiful old-world charm blended with a cabaret vibe. What made it even more special was that it was picturised on Rekha ji—an icon, a legend, and someone I have admired all my life.”

She added, “When I recorded the song, I had no idea it would be her performing it on screen, and she lit the screen up and made me sound so good. To have my voice match her timeless presence felt like the highest honor. I’m so grateful that even today the song continues to live on in people’s hearts.”

The music video of the song features Rekha as a Jazz singer invoking vintage look and aesthetics which is elevated by the playful tunes in the music and evocative words which combine well with the energetic vocals of Sunidhi. The song is composed by Shantanu Moitra and features lyrics by Swanand Kirkire.

A restored version of Parineeta is set to be re-released in theatres on its 20th anniversary. The film has been restored by Prasad Film Labs. Vinod Chopra Films, which backed the film, is the first production house in India to restore its entire film library in 8K resolution, with soundtracks remastered in 5.1 surround sound. Part of this restoration work was carried out at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, a globally acclaimed lab known for restoring cinematic classics.

Adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel, the film is directed by Pradeep Sarkar and stars Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. It was originally released in theatres on June 10, 2025.
