Director Hansal Mehta, whose series Gandhi will be having its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year, took to social media on Wednesday to share some behind-the-scenes pictures from the shoot of the series.
In the photos, clicked in a hilly area, Hansal can be seen posing with his crew. “Exactly a year ago, we called it a wrap on the principal photography of #Gandhi. What began as an idea, then a daunting mountain to climb, slowly turned into days and nights of relentless work, doubt, discovery, and joy,” he captioned the post.
The filmmaker also expressed gratitude towards his team. “And here we are one year later… counting down to just 10 days before the world sees it for the first time at #TIFF50 on September 6, 2025. I carry with me immense gratitude for the extraordinary women and men who poured their hearts into the telling of this story. They stood beside me through chaos and calm, through exhaustion and exhilaration,” he wrote.
“This premiere isn’t just a milestone. It’s a testament to their craft, resilience, and love,” he concluded the caption.
Gandhi stars Pratik Gandhi in the titular role and reunites the actor with Hansal after their hit series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020). It will also feature Pratik’s wife Bhamini Oza in the role of Kasturba Gandhi. The series is an adaptation of the books Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World, 1914-1948 and Gandhi Before India written by historian Ramachandra Guha.
Earlier Hansal had told Variety that, with Gandhi, the attempt is not to portray him as a God-like figure but rather to humanise him. There have been multiple other films based on the Father of the Nation, most notably Shyam Benegal's 1996 film The Making of the Mahatma as well as Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan's 2000 film Hey Ram.
The 50th Toronto International Film Festival is set to take place from September 4 to 14 this year.
