The first song, ‘Dear Country’, from Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming crime-drama, Nishaanchi was unveiled by the makers on Wednesday. It is composed by Dhruv Ghanekar, sung by Vijay Lal Yadav and features lyrics by Pyarelal Yadav.
The song has a humorous tone blending lively folk music with tabla beats and harmonium and playful lyrics written in broken English. It features a bunch of singers and musicians performing it live as the music video also cuts to some visuals from the film. At one point, the lyrics say, “We are her brave sons. You pack any insult, it is very bad result”. The video ends with a darkly comical exchange between two characters from the film.
Sharing his experience composing ‘Dear Country’, Dhruv said, “The idea was simple — capture the flavour of the hinterland, the moment you hear it. We began with a traditional sound, then flipped it with desi, broken-English lyrics, the kind you hear in small-town conversations, straight from the heart. I had complete freedom to match the madness and heart of Nishaanchi’s script. Anurag’s films always have a distinct sonic identity, so I wanted something fresh and unexpected. ‘Dear Country’ ended up fun, quirky, rooted, and just the right amount of unfiltered.”
The crime-drama-comedy marks the debut of Aaishvary Thackeray, in a double role. It also features Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra. As per an earlier press release Nishaanchi has been described as “a film delves into the complex lives of two brothers who walk starkly different paths, uncovering how their choices shape their destinies.”
Produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under Jar Pictures, in association with Flip Films, the movie is written by Prasoon Mishra, Ranjan Chandel and Anurag Kashyap. The film will release in theatres on September 19.
