Singer Monali Thakur took to social media on Tuesday to unveil the teaser of her upcoming romantic song, ‘Ek Baar Phir’. The song is touted to be “deeply emotional and intensely personal”, exploring themes of betrayal, heartbreak, and abuse, reportedly inspired by her own life experiences. It is set to be released on August 6.
The song is composed and sung by Monali and features lyrics by Kunaal Vermaa.
In the short teaser, Monali is seen as a heartbroken lover. It shows her character going through abuse, both verbal and physical, including scenes where she is slapped and choked. This is intercut with montage shots of Monali reflecting on her life and journey across various locations. Her voiceover in Hindi says, "When someone close to you hurts and betrays you, your heart weeps a thousand tears, and you wonder, 'Why did this happen with me?'". The teaser ends with the voiceover, “However much the world hurts you, one can't accept defeat.”
Sharing the teaser, Monali wrote, “Sometimes, the words unsaid… say the loudest. The pain we carry quietly… shapes our story. Get to know my story on 06.08.2025.” Sources close to Monali reveal that the singer is channeling her personal pain into the song’s emotional core.
Monali is known for being the voice behind some impactful songs like ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’, for which she won a National Award and ‘Sawaar Loon’. She made her playback singing debut with the song ‘Kubool Kar Le’ from Salman Khan’s Jaan-E-Mann which was composed by Anu Malik. Her last song release was ‘Haan Ke Haan’ from the film Maharaj. She has also sung many songs in Bengali.
Monali has also briefly acted in films, making her Hindi film debut with Nagesh Kukunoor's Lakshmi (2014). She also played a small role in Aamir Khan's PK (2014).
