Vijay Varma has wrapped shooting for his upcoming series Matka King, he announced on Thursday. The series is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, known for his fierce Marathi films like Fandry (2014) and Sairat (2016) and the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Hindi-drama Jhund (2022).
Vijay took to Instagram stories on Thursday evening to make the announcement as he shared a photo of a cake in the shape of a pot. He wrote, “Matka King wrapped.”
The series is written by Nagraj along with Abhay Koranne and also stars Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover and Siddharth Jadhav in pivotal roles. It is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, along with Nagraj and is a fictional tale set in 1960s Mumbai, where an enterprising cotton trader who craves legitimacy and respect starts a new gambling game dubbed ‘Matka’. This game takes the city by storm, democratising a terrain previously reserved for the rich and elite.
Vijay was last seen in the dark-comedy Murder Mubarak, which released on Netflix last year. He was also seen in the web-series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.
