The makers of Sunny Deol’s actioner Jaat have removed the ‘objectionable scene’ from the film after backlash from the Christian community. Some members of the community had earlier expressed their objection over a church scene in the film featuring actor Randeep Hooda.
Taking to social media, the makers wrote, “There has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect. Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken a quick action of deleting the scene from the film. We sincerely apologise to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt."
In the now deleted scene, Randeep Hooda's character was seen standing below a crucifix in a church, above the place where worshippers pray. He was also intimidating and resorting to hooliganism, which irked the Christian community.
A case was also registered in the matter at Jalandhar’s Sadar police station. The community had planned protests outside theatres showing the film; however, local police stopped the demonstrations. Then they issued a two-day ultimatum to the authorities, saying that the protests will intensify if no action is taken.
Jaat is directed by Gopichand Malineni and was released in theatres on April 10 and also stars Regina Cassandra, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Saiyami Kher in key roles. Meanwhile, the makers had also recently announced that a sequel Jaat 2 is in the works.
