Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Citadel: Honey Bunny will not be returning for the second season, as Amazon has cancelled the show. Its storyline, along with the Italian spinoff Citadel: Diana, will be woven into the second season of Priyanka Chopra’s Citadel, which is set to be released in 2026.
Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, shared the update with Deadline and said that the two spin-offs will not continue as individual series any more. He also called Season 2 of Citadel “the most exhilarating yet”.
The report also stated that Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana only did well in local markets while failing to leave a mark internationally. Their future has been uncertain ever since they premiered last year. Even the production of other spin-offs, like Citadel: Mexico, has been put on hold.
Citadel: Honey Bunny was helmed by Raj and DK and received mixed reviews upon release. It told the story of two spies in the 90s, Honey and Bunny, who are the parents of Nadia, the character which Priyanka plays in the mothership series. It also starred Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Sikandar Kher, Saqib Saleem and Soham Majumdar in pivotal roles.
