Nikkhil Advani opened up recently about the time when Karan Johar approached him with the script of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1999) to seek his opinion. Further, Karan also offered him to be his assistant on the film, leaving Nikkhil surprised as he used to bully Karan in school.
In an interview with Cyrus Bocha, Nikkhil revealed he was one year senior to Karan in school and everyone used to bully him. "It was unfortunate," he said. They attended Greenlawns School in Mumbai. Years later, Nikkhil visited Karan’s house to read the half-complete script of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. “He then narrated the script and I said it was very good, it was superb. He asked me if I would assist him which was quite weird because I used to bully him in school,” said the director.
Nikkhil accepted the offer and the film became a blockbuster. He continued to assist him for Karan’s next film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and further collaborated on Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), which Nikkhil directed in his debut and Karan produced. Its release created tensions between the two and generated a rift in their professional relationship. However, the two have mended their relationship over the years.
Nikkhil's last directorial was the John Abraham-Sharvari starrer Vedaa which released in theatres on August 15.
