Shah Rukh Khan recently spoke about wanting to do a horror film when he appeared on the podcast for Locarno Film Festival, Locarno Meets. He said that he has been waiting for someone to offer him a horror film or a comedy film.
Shah Rukh was asked during the podcast about the genre that he most enjoyed working in. To which, he replied, “God and the audience have been too kind for me for the past 35 years and I feel like I have a choice that I can make. So, every 6-8 months, I wake up with the thought that I want to do a horror film and I hope somebody offers me a horror film. And if not that, I have a plan B—let’s do comedy.”
He added that during the Covid-19 lockdown, when he had not done a film since Zero (2019), he wanted to work in an action film. “I didn’t really work for two years during Covid and I was waiting for someone to give me an action film. During that time, no one was really making films but people would come with some offers. And then a couple of people succumbed. My friend, Aditya Chopra gave me Pathaan.”
Shah Rukh received the Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Tourism Award for his contribution to cinema at the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, earlier this year.
He had three film releases in 2023: Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He will be seen next in the action-thriller King, which is being helmed by Sujoy Ghosh and also stars Suhana Khan. He will also be seen making a return to voice Mufasa in the Hindi version of Mufasa: The Lion King. Mufasa's origin story, helmed by Barry Jenkins, will also have the actor's sons Aryan Khan voice Simba and AbRam voice young Mufasa.
