Guns galore. The trailer for Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian segment of the global spy-thriller series Citadel, was released on Tuesday. The action extravaganza, set in the 90s, stars Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. It has been developed by Raj and DK along with long-time collaborator Sita R Menon. It also features KK Menon.
The trailer showcases the life of Honey (Samantha), a struggling actor and her partner Bunny (Varun), a stuntman. The latter, however, moonlights as a secret agent and soon recruits Honey. They also have a young daughter Nadia, who may or may not grow up to become Priyanka’s character in the US version of Citadel. The two and a half minute trailer is filled with lot of hand-to-hand combat sequences and gun fights.
Talking about his character, Varun said, “Bunny is unlike any role I’ve played before. As a spy, he not only leads a double life, but every aspect of his personality has two distinct sides, which was very exciting for me as an actor.”
Samantha added, "The opportunity to be part of an action-packed entertainer with a gripping storyline, rich character depth, and intense hand-to-hand combats and stunts that rival international standards, along with the prospect to play an integral role in this collection of connected spy stories, is what drew me to this project. The challenges and efforts required to bring Honey to life have left a profound impact on me, both professionally and personally.”
The creators, Raj and DK said, “Citadel: Honey Bunny is a significant project for us as it has given us the opportunity to be part of a larger, unprecedented world of spies and espionage that has never been done or even attempted before.”
The series also features Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is an Indian-spin off of the US’s Citadel, starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas alongside Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville. The Italian version Citadel: Diana also released on Prime Video recently on October 10.
