
Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda accidentally shot himself in the knee at his home in Mumbai on Tuesday morning. He was rushed to a hospital and is out of danger.
The incident took place at 4.45 am on Tuesday when the actor was getting ready to catch a 6 am flight to Kolkata. As per Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha the trigger of his licensed revolver was accidentally pulled as he was keeping the gun in the cupboard. It misfired and a bullet hit his leg.
The injured actor was admitted to the nearby Criti Care Hospital for treatment. No one has lodged any complaint, police said, adding that they have seized the gun and begun an investigation into the matter.
Govinda has been admitted at Mumbai’s CritiCare Hopital. As per reports, he will remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 24 hours and his condition is regularly being monitored by the doctors. His condition is said to be stable. Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde released an audio note where he told the media and his fans that his bullet has been removed. He thanked his doctors and expressed his gratitude.
Govind Arun Ahuja, better known by his stage name Govinda, is a popular actor, comedian, dancer and singer who has appeared in more than 165 Hindi-language films, popular ones being Raja Babu (1994), Hero No. 1 (1997), Shola Aur Shabnam (1992) and Dulhe Raja (1998), among others.
In March, a month before the Lok Sabha elections, Govinda joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
This marked Govinda's re-entry into the political landscape after nearly two decades. The actor won the 2004 poll battle from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket before stepping away from politics in 2008.
