At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), an engaging conversation unfolded at the Kala Academy in Goa, where students and delegates explored The Larger Impact of Cinema and How AI Will Change the Course of the Entertainment Industry. The session featured Shri Sudipta Bhattacharya, CEO of the Adani Group, and film producer Mahaveer Jain, who shared their insights on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in cinema.

In his opening address, Shri Bhattacharya remarked, “AI will be more of an aid in the short term, but in the long term, it will be the replacement.” He explained that while there is currently no robust feedback mechanism, the future could see AI collecting real-time input from as many as 500 individuals. By processing this data, AI could craft plots that captivate audiences from every perspective. Adding to this vision, Mr. Jain highlighted Shri Bhattacharya’s bold prediction that AI advancements might enable the production of one film per day in the coming decades.

Shri Bhattacharya further expanded on this transformative potential, stating, “Suddenly, you realise that I don’t need physical infrastructure, a set, or cameras. I don’t even need to write a script. All I need is a great lab, and I can weave it all together in just one day.”

Mr Jain raised a critical point about the dual nature of AI’s impact, emphasising the importance of balanced regulations to mitigate risks. Drawing parallels to cryptocurrency, Shri Bhattacharya noted that while some nations impose heavy restrictions, others operate with minimal oversight. “Countries with excessive restrictions often fall behind,” he observed. However, he stressed that an unregulated approach could disrupt societal balance, urging governments to adopt thoughtful and measured steps in addressing AI’s challenges.

As the discussion concluded, Shri Bhattacharya acknowledged the inevitable rise of AI and the profound changes it would bring. While recognising that some jobs may become obsolete, he expressed optimism in humanity’s ability to innovate and create new opportunities. The session ended on a hopeful note, envisioning a future shaped by the synergy between human creativity and artificial intelligence.
