Rohit Shetty has confirmed a standalone film with Deepika Padukone in the cop-universe. Deepika’s character Shakti Shetty was introduced in the recently released Singham Again and was referred to as 'Lady Singham' on multiple occasions. Rohit said that they have a concept in mind for the film but are yet to write the script.
In an interaction with News18 Showsha, Rohit shared that he wasn’t sure about the cop-universe till 2018. “When Simmba (2018) worked, people accepted that we can bring in other characters and create a universe. That’s when we made Sooryavanshi (2021) and it was during this film that we thought of making a film with an out-and-out lady cop," he said.
The director said that the Shakti Shetty spin-off was delayed due to Covid-19 lockdown. According to their original plan, Singham Again was scheduled to release in 2020 but got delayed as the release of Sooryavanshi was pushed further.
He shared an update on the standalone Deepika Padukone film and said, “We still have to write it. We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it. There’s still time for that. I know what the character will be like and her basic story arc but I don’t know her whole journey yet as a director or writer. But a female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen, otherwise we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we have emphasised on that character and her name in Singham Again.”
Singham Again released in theatres on November 1, clashing at the box-office with Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
