Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty came together to work for the first time for the 2013 romantic-comedy Chennai Express. The film went on to become a blockbuster and was the superstar’s highest grossing films till last year when Pathaan broke the record. However, when the film was announced, their collaboration was predicted by some to be the ‘worst’.

In an interview with Rediff before the release of the film in 2013, Rohit had spoken about this and how some people said that the two won’t get along very well. “There was so much speculation when Shah Rukh and I came together. When Chennai Express was about to start, they said, ‘Shah Rukh aur Rohit ka toh jamega hi nahi (they won’t get along!). It is the worst combination’, ‘Shah Rukh goes overboard when he does comedy, how will Rohit handle him?’ and ‘Arre, Rohit’s making a love story… what kind of a love story will he make?’ They reacted based on what they thought the film would be. The reality is that only I know what I am making,” said the director.

The film also starred Deepika Padukone alongside Shah Rukh and became a huge success at the box-office paving way for another collaboration between the Rohit and the superstar in the 2015 film Dilwale.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again released in theatres on November 1. Shah Rukh will be seen next in Sujoy Ghosh’s actioner King.
