Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light has won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. It is the first Indian film to win the award at the festival. As reported earlier, Kapadia's film is also the first Indian film to be part of the festival's main competition in 30 years.

For the uninitiated, the Grand Prix is the second-most prestigious award at the festival after the Palme d'Or. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam in the lead roles. Among other aspects, Kapadia's film explores the aspirations of three nurses in Mumbai as they navigate their work, lives, and relationships. An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads thus: "The documentary footage captures the bustling megapolis of Mumbai and its bristling energy, bursting at its seams, teeming with people who have left their homes behind and migrated to it from near and far to find livelihood and life in its steely fold."

All We Imagine As Light is filmmaker Kapadia's feature film debut, but her directorial credits also include shorts such as Afternoon Clouds, And What Is the Summer Saying?, and The Last Mango Before the Monsoon.
