Cannes 2024: Anasuya Sengupta becomes the first Indian actor to win award at the festival

Anasuya Sengupta has been receiving all the praise at Cannes Film Festival 2024 as she became the first Indian actor to win an award at the festival. She grabbed the Un Certain Regard Prize for Best Actress for her film The Shameless, directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov.

Anasuya plays the role of Renuka in the film, who escapes from a brothel after killing a cop. The film also stars Omara Shetty as her love interest.

She took to Instagram to share some photos post the ceremony as she won the award. In the caption, she wrote, “I won, guys, held so lovingly by my heroes. I am here for you, to be the one you need. Thank You.”

Earlier, the Indian short film, Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know won the La Cinef Award at the festival. Directed by Chidananda S Naik who is a student at The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the film is inspired from a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who happens to steal a rooster.
