Nawazuddin Siddiqui spoke in support of Ranveer Singh’s acting process during a recent interaction, calling it a painful process to get into a character. Ranveer had earlier described his process of working on the character of Khilji in Padmaavat (2018) and said how he had to seek therapy to get out of the dark space that he had gone to after doing the film.

After this, actor Prashant Narayanan had taken a dig at Ranveer and rubbished his claims in an interaction with Siddharth Kannan, saying, “He is lying. There is no such thing as going into dark spaces.”

Nawazuddin was asked about it during an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel where he said, “The people who are calling it fake, did they bother to understand the actor’s process? Did they bother to understand how he was living his life when he was creating the character? They are simply judging him. We don’t know what a man is thinking when he’s coming up with a characterisation.”

He gave an example of the late Hollywood actor Heath Ledger and added, “When you dive deep into a character, it is a very painful process. This is a very irresponsible thing to say. If there was no process, then what Heath Ledger did in The Dark Knight would not be possible. That man was extremely serious about his performance and that is why he excelled in the character; that’s how iconic characters are born. If we are going to take (the process) casually, then you’ll end up with people just blurting out dialogues randomly. This is what separates a good actor from the rest.”

Nawazuddin’s latest film was Rautu Ka Raaz where he played a cop investigating a murder in the hills. It released on ZEE5 on June 27.
