Abhay Verma and Sharvari’s horror comedy film Munjya has earned Rs 103 crore (gross) at the box-office, the makers announced on Monday. Directed by acclaimed Marathi director Aditya Sarpotdar, the film also stars Mona Singh in a pivotal role.
In an Instagram post, Aditya shared the box-office numbers of the film since its release on June 7. In week 1, the film made Rs 36.50 crore and Rs 34.50 crore in week 2. The collections caught up during last weekend, making Rs 3.31 crore on Friday; Rs 5.80 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.20 crore on Sunday respectively.
In the caption to the post, Aditya wrote, “This is it. My First Theatrical Hindi Feature Film. Munjya laughs and scares its way to 100 Cr! Thank you for the historic third weekend. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Munjya is reportedly set in the Maddock Films' horror comedy universe, comprising films such as Stree (2018), Roohi (2021) and Varun’s Bhediya (2022). The post-credits scene in the film features Varun Dhavan’s character from Bhediya.
Set in Pune and the Konkan region of Maharashtra, Munjya follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature which has its roots in Marathi folklore. It is written by Yogesh Chandekar with additional screenplay and dialogue by Niren Bhatt.
