Rajkummar Rao, who will be seen doing a cameo in Pushtaini, recently spoke about being part of the film and how he has known its lead actor and director Vinod Rawat since their theatre days in Delhi.
Pushtaini follows the life of Bhuppi (Rawat), a struggling actor, who is desperate to secure his last chance at stardom after he finds himself caught in an embarrassing scandal. Forced to return to his home and face his past, Bhuppi travels through the mountains and shares adventures with strangers, unaware of what the journey has in store for him.
"Our pockets were empty but our eyes were full of dreams," Rajkummar recalled as he talked about his bond with Vinod, who has been associated with Hrithik Roshan as an acting coach on films like Kaabil, Super 30, Vikram Vedha, War and this year's Fighter.
In Pushtaini, Rajkummar will be seen playing a star, guiding a newcomer on his first day of set.
"I am happy the film is releasing now in theatres, at a time when Hindi cinema is already witnessing the audience embracing content driven stories with wide arms. The timing of Pushtaini couldn't have been better. It's the time to win, to dream and I'm happy that Vinod’s work will now reach a wider audience, including some youngsters in some theatre group, who must be dreaming to make it big. Follow your heart, your passion will guide you home," Rajkummar said in a statement.
Vinod Rawat shot to fame with the inaugural season of Sushmita Sen starrer International Emmy Awards nominated series Aarya, which he co-directed with filmmaker Ram Madhvani.
The film will release in theatres on June 21.
