The trailer of the upcoming light-hearted, slice-of-life drama Sharmajee Ki Beti was released by the makers on Wednesday. Written and directed by Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, the film features Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher in the lead as three women, all with the surname ‘Sharma’, trying to navigate parenthood, life and love in the metropolis of Mumbai. The film also has Vanshika Taparia, Arista Mehta, Sharib Hashmi and Parvin Dabas in pivotal roles.
The trailer introduces us to Jyoti Sharma (Sakshi), a teacher and a mother trying to balance her career while having a disjointed relationship with her teenage daughter. Divya plays Kiran Sharma, a homemaker who recently shifted from Patiala to Mumbai and is trying to adjust to the aloofness of the big city. The third Sharma is Tanvi (Saiyami). In a recap of her character in Ghoomer, Saiyami plays an ambitious cricketer with an unsupportive partner. The trailer gives a glimpse of how these women fight all odds to ultimately find themselves.
Talking about the film, director and Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira shared, “The light hearted, comical narrative of the film highlights the everyday struggles, triumphs, and diverse experiences of middle-class women. Each character reflects a part of my own journey, making it deeply personal.”
Discussing her character, Sakshi said, “Jyoti mirrors the lives of millions of women around the world, striving to balance societal expectations with their own dreams and aspirations. Although she has a wonderfully supportive partner (Sharib Hashmi) who believes in her dreams, she struggles with the tantrums and expectations of her teenage daughter.”
“Kiran appears to be quite flighty by nature, but there's an undercurrent of strong emotions due to the circumstances she faces in her personal life,” added Divya. “Portraying her allowed me to explore new facets of my acting abilities that I hadn't tapped into before.”
On the character of the cricketer Tanvi, Saiyami shared, “The role was a liberating reminder that everyone must follow their dreams and passions and not get bogged down by societal pressure.”
Sharmajee Ki Beti will release on Prime Video on June 28.
