Anurag Kashyap issued a clarification on actor Amruta Subhash after she was facing backlash online for what Anurag said during an interview with Bollywood Bubble recently. In the interview, Anurag had come out strongly against agencies of actors and blamed them for the rising costs of making a film. He had recounted an incident where the agency of Amruta had made certain demands from him, when Amruta didn’t have any idea about it.
In the clarification made on Instagram, Anurag wrote, “This post is to inform that I took her example because I could with asking her. Such is the love and trust between us. The film in question was Choked and she did that film beautifully. Culprit here was the agency, who made demands on her behalf and once I called Amruta, she didn’t know what they were asking and immediately corrected it and today she has even left the said agency (sic).”
Amruta reposted it on her account and wrote, “Thank you Anurag Kashyap. This gesture has touched me deeply. I chose my friends very wisely. I am lucky to have you as my friend (sic).”
During the interview with Bollywood Bubble, Anurag said, “I was doing a film with an actor I have worked with three times before and I know how simple she is, Amruta Subhash. Suddenly, we were doing something and there was a list of demands that came from the manager. I said, “Have you lost it?’ What is this?’ The list of demands included a single door van, this, that… I called up the manager and said, ‘I am replacing her (sic).'”
Later, Amruta called him to ask what had transpired. The filmmaker said, “Amruta asked me what happened, what did she do. She didn’t know what her own agent has asked. Then she yelled at her agent. Many times this has happened. I directly drop the actors if they demand (sic)).
Anurag has worked with Amruta on his films like Choked (2020), Ghost Stories (2020), and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016). His last directorial venture was Kennedy, which premiered at Cannes last year and was shown at multiple festivals. It is yet to be released in theatres.
He was seen recently in the Tamil film Maharaja alongside Vijay Sethupathi. He will be starring next in the crime-thriller web-series Bad Cop, which also features Gulshan Devaiah in the lead.
