Diljit Dosanjh recently revealed in an interview that he ran away from home at the age of 8 because of a girl he loved in school. He even had to lie to his parents to skip going to school due to this.

Speaking to Raj Shamani, Diljit said, “I tried to run away from my home at the age of 8. There was a girl in my school, because of her I tried to run away from my house. In school, my seniors would randomly ask all us, ‘Which girl do you like?’. I pointed towards this girl and said, ‘I like her.’ So, my senior was like, ‘Go confess it to her and then you will get married to her only.’ I was like okay. I went to the girl and told her that you and I will get married. She went and complained to my teacher and my teacher was like ‘Go get your parents.’ For me, it was the end of the world.”

He detailed upon the things he took with him as he ran from his house after this. He said, “So, the 8-year-old me opened the fridge, picked two bananas, some other fruits, took my cycle and just left. I was just some miles away from my house when one of the villagers just yelled at me, ‘Where are you going, go back to your home.’”

He added, “Earlier, in villages, it was very common for the villagers to yell and shout at kids in the village, they were all like a family, they sometimes even slapped. So, this man made me return home when I tried to leave. Then, the next day, I lied about a stomach ache and skipped school for two days. Then my teacher also let me go.”

Diljit was last seen in Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila where he essayed the titular role. The film also starred Parineeti Chopra and was released directly on Netflix. He will be seen next in the Punjabi film Jatt and Juilet 3 which is set to be released in theatres on June 28.
