Abhay Verma and Sharvari starrer horror-comedy Munjya has made Rs 11.61 crore in two days since its release, as per the makers.
The Aditya Sarpotdar directorial opened with Rs 4.21 crore on Friday and witnessed an increase in collections to Rs 7.40 crore on the second day. Maddock Films shared the film's box office update on X and wrote, "The love from our audience made #Munjya's second day unforgettable! #Munjya, a must-watch entertainer for families and kids, is in cinemas now!”
Set in Pune and the Konkan region of Maharashtra, the film follows the story of the eponymous mythical creature which has its roots in Marathi folklore. It is reportedly set in the Maddock Films' horror comedy universe, comprising films such as Stree, Roohi and Bhediya.
Munjya is written by Yogesh Chandekar with additional screenplay and dialogue by Niren Bhatt.
CE's review of the film read, "A lot of Munjya is set in a village on the Konkan coast. It provides a fresh scenery and reminded me of the scenic setting of Tumbbad. Sadly, the similarities end here. Munjya’s interesting premise has a lofty execution, inundated with jump-scares that mostly fly by. There are too many repetitive, unimaginative scenes which involve characters either freaking out or screaming out of a room. The screenplay, at times, felt too random, too convenient."
