Shabana Azmi took to X on Saturday morning to express her views about the Kangana Ranaut slap incident. The veteran actor said that she cannot celebrate the act of slapping by the security personnel. She said this in light of many people lauding the act of the security personnel.
Shabana said, “I have no love lost for #Kangana Ranaut. But I can't find myself joining this chorus of celebrating "the slap". If security personnel start taking law into their hands none of us can be safe.”
Along with her, many other celebrities came out in support of Kangana. Addressing the paparazzi at an event, Anupam Kher condemned the act and said, “I deeply regret it. The way a woman slapped another woman by taking advantage of her position of power is wrong. This should be legally investigated. The officer can have grievances, but it shouldn't be done by taking advantage of their power."
Shekhar Suman also condemned the incident at the same event and said, “No one has the right to do this. This is illegal what she has done. She should get punished for this. I understand that she might have some anger or protest in her mind but the way it was expressed was very wrong. It could also have been said in a decent manner. You can't raise your hand on anyone like this.”
The incident took place during security check at Chandigarh airport on Thursday evening, following which Kangana had issued a video where she explained her side of the story. The officer, Kulwinder Kaur, was later detained and suspended following a complaint by Kangana.
In a viral video, Kulwinder was seen saying that Kangana had disrespected farmers with a statement last year and her mother was among the protestors, causing distress to her. She recently won the Lok Sabha seat for Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, defeating the Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh.
