Kabir Khan revealed recently in an interview that he advised Kartik Aaryan to take adequate sleep for the role he plays in Chandu Champion. In the film, Kartik plays the role of swimmer Murlikant Petkar for which he went through rigorous body transformation.
Speaking about it in the interview with India Today, Kabir said, “When I met him, he was an insomniac and used to sleep for four hours. I told Kartik, 'For this journey, if you don't sleep for eight hours minimum, there's no point in undertaking this journey. He told me, 'For this character, my life became different.’ Today he's somebody who sleeps for eight hours, looks at everything he eats, has a very fit lifestyle.”
Kabir also reflected on the training that the actor went through for the role. He said that Kartik lived like an athlete for close to 1.5 years. “I had to put in a huge team of physical trainers, physiotherapists, dietitians, boxing coaches, swimming coaches, and wrestling coaches,” he said. “It was a massive team. And literally, for 1.5 years, Karthik has lived the life of an athlete. He would wake up early in the morning, go to the gym, have his food, and then go for a boxing session. Then come back and sleep. We even had to monitor his sleep."
The film is written by Kabir himself, Sumit Arora, and Sudipto Sarkar and also stars Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav. It is jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan, and is set for a June 14 release.
