Sharmin Segal recently revealed that she would love to play the character of Kashi, essayed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (2015). Sharmin Segal made her OTT debut to with Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

During an interview, Sharmin was asked if she wished to essay any character from Bhansali’s filmography. She said, “Kashi. Because she's very vulnerable. Priyanka Chopra has done it amazingly. I don't think I would ever be able to live up to that but yeah, Kashi."

Earlier, there were comments against Sharmin, who is also Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, that she had been cast in the series because of nepotism. She was also being criticised for her “expressionless” performance. Sharmin broke her silence around the trolling, and appeared to defend her acting. She told News18, “I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about.”

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is a series set pre-independent India against the backdrop of the freedom movement and tells the story of courtesans, nawabs and the British and the tussle for power amongst them. It premiered on Netflix on May 1. Netflix recently announced the second season of the series.
