The makers of Vedaa issued a statement on Thursday as their film is yet to get a clearance and certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film stars John Abraham and Sharvari in pivotal roles.
Taking to Instagram, the makers, Zee Studios, Emmay Entertainment and JA Entertainment, wrote in a joint statement, “We, the producers of Vedaa, feel compelled to share with our fans & supporters that despite our best efforts, we are still to secure a clearance and certification from the CBFC of India. Adhering to protocols we applied for certification well before the prescribed eight weeks to release. Our film was screened for the CBFC on June 25th. Post this, we were advanced to a revising committee review without any explanation as to what the esteemed examining committee's concerns or objections were.”
They added, “Since then, we have waited patiently for a revising committee to be constituted, impressed on all respected and honourable office bearers and repeatedly daily documented our appeal for certification, consideration or even an explanation. Despite this unusual delay, we have full faith in the system in place and are confident that the CBFC will oblige us rightfully. It is our earnest request and wish that these words reach those who are able to help us resolve and dissipate this impasse and have our film certified.”
They further reflected on the importance of releasing the film on August 15 as it is special for the makers. “August 15th is a special date that we are fortunate to find ourselves in a position to bring our film to fans of John Abraham and Nikkhil Advani, who have supported our previous releases Satyameva Jayate (2018) and Batla House (2019) on the same date. Vedaa is a powerful, out and out entertaining film, inspired by current events. We believe it deserves to reach its audience. It is our sincere endeavour that we will be able to keep our appointment with you,” they said.
The film’s teaser released in March introducing Sharvari’s character as a girl who is training to become a boxer whereas John seemed to be an ex-army man out to take revenge.
Vedaa is produced by Zee Studios, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and John Abraham and co-produced by Minnakshi Das. It was earlier scheduled to be released on July 12, but got postponed. It is set to hit the theatres now on August 15, where it will clash with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.
