The trailer for Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey’s Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba was released by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Jayprad Desai and written by Kanika Dhillon, the film is a sequel to the 2021 film Haseen Dillruba. It also stars Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill in pivotal roles.

The trailer gives a sneak peek as Rani (Taapsee) and Rishu (Vikrant) attempt to leave their troubled past behind, only to find themselves entangled in a web of new challenges. As they try to live a peaceful life, the arrival of new faces, including the enigmatic Abhimanyu portrayed by Sunny Kaushal, throws their plans in danger. Jimmy plays a cop who has a personal vendetta in exposing Rani. Throughout the trailer, the song ‘Ek Haseena Thi Ek Deewana Tha’ plays over, giving it an old-school flavour.

Speaking of the film, Taapsee said, “Reuniting with Rani feels like coming home, and I am thrilled to dive back into her world again. Kanika has once again crafted a phenomenal arc for Rani, pushing the character to new depths. This time around, audiences will witness a Rani who is fiercer, more passionate, and even more complex. She's a woman who will stop at nothing for love, and I can't wait for everyone to experience her journey.”

Vikrant spoke of his character in the film and said, “Rishu is more than just a character to me; he's a complex individual caught in a whirlwind of emotions. Reprising this role has been a fulfilling journey. If you thought you knew Rishu, prepare to be surprised. The sequel delves deeper into his psyche, exploring his vulnerabilities and strengths in ways we haven't seen.”

Joining the film for the sequel, Sunny calls it an ‘incredible opportunity’. He said, “The first film created a unique world that left audiences wanting more and certainly did leave an indelible mark on them. Being able to add my own colour to that canvas is by far one of the most exciting experiences.”

He added, “I have always loved the works of Taapsee, Vikrant, and Jimmy sir and sharing the screen with such talented actors is an absolute privilege. It's a beautifully gripping script. Portraying Abhimanyu has been immensely rewarding and a great learning experience. Can't wait for the audience to meet him too.”

Jimmy Shergill spoke of his role as Officer Mritunjay and remarked, "Playing Officer Mritunjay, a character who tries to piece this mysterious puzzle, is a challenge I have relished. Working alongside such a talented cast and crew has been fantastic. The script is a masterclass in pulp and suspense, and I am confident that the audience will be transported to Rani and Rishu’s world from the very beginning."

The film is produced by Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, with Kanika Dhillon and Shiv Chanana serving as co-producers. It will be released on Netflix on August 9.
