Ellipsis Entertainment will be producing a film based on the infamous 1971 scam, they announced on Thursday. The film will tell the story of the incident that happened at the State Bank of India branch in Delhi which was conned for a large sum of money by an alleged double agent, Rustom Nagarwala.

The untitled film will delve deep into the sensational scam, investigated by a team of Delhi police officers, led by the then SHO of Chanakya Puri, Hari Dev Kaushal. He passed away at the age of 91 and was affectionately addressed as Panditji.

Hari Dev Kaushal, happens to be the father of actors, Rahul Dev and Mukul Dev. Moreover, the film will be written by Mukul, who has earlier written for Hansal Mehta’s Omerta (2017), along with Suprotim Sengupta and Kunal Aneja.

Casting for the film is currently underway.

Speaking about the film, Ellipsis partner Tanuj Garg said, “As a huge fan of the espionage genre, I was intrigued to read about the case, which continues to remain shrouded in mystery. Several people associated with the probe, including the primary suspect, kept dying within months of the incident. We can’t wait to lock our cast and go into shoot soon.”

Photographer and co-producer at Ellipsis, Atul Kasbekar added, “My first photographic assignments in 1990 were with Rahul and Mukul Dev who are also personal friends. I had the good fortune of personally interacting with their father, Hari Dev Ji, extensively. It’s poetic that he is the hero of this compelling story.”

Ellipsis Entertainment has produced films like Do Aur Do Pyaar and SharmaJee Ki Beti which released earlier this year.
