Tabu recently shared an anecdote from the shoot-days of her 1997 action-drama film Virasat when director Priyadarshan poured a bottle of coconut oil on her head, in order to make her look like her character in the film. She played the role of a villager Gehna Thakur in it which also starred Anil Kapoor in the lead.
In an interaction with Zoom recently, Tabu recalled, “Priyadarshan wanted me to have oily hair and a village look. So, the hairstylist asked me to take some gel and apply it on my hairs to make it look oily. When I went on set, Priyadarshan said, ‘I asked you to put oil.’ I said, ‘Yeah, a little. Nice shine is coming.’”
She added, “He didn’t say anything more but then came back later with a bottle of coconut oil from behind and poured the entire thing onto my head. ‘This is what I mean by having oil in your hair,’ he said. But then it was very easy for me. I didn’t have to do any hairstyling. I used to get ready in five minutes. Long hair, apply oil, braid it, and go to the set.”
Virasat is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film starring Kamal Haasan, titled Thevar Magan (1992), which was also written by Kamal.
Tabu will be seen next in Neeraj Pandey’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha alongside Ajay Devgn. It will be released in theatres on July 5.
