Former US president Barack Obama shared his annual list of favorite films of the year and it includes Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light alongside Anora, Dune: Part Two and The Piano Lesson. AWIAL is the only Indian film on the list.

Taking to Instagram, Barack shared the list of films and wrote in caption, “Here are a few movies I’d recommend checking out this year.” Other films on his list are, Conclave, The Promised Land, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, Anora, Didi, A Complete Unknown.

Payal’s film has been getting accolades in international circles ever since it won the Grand-Prix at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Recently, Payal became the first Indian woman filmmaker to be nominated in the Best Director category for the Golden Globes. Before her only acclaimed director Shekhar Kapoor had bagged the nomination for his film Elizabeth in 1998. The film was also named as the year’s best film by the prestigious film magazine Sight and Sound.

The film revolves around two Malayali nurses, played by Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti, in Mumbai, and tells a story of their dreams and aspirations. It also stars Chhaya Kadam of Laapataa Ladies fame and Hridhu Haroon.
