Aamir Khan recently said that if his production Laapataa Ladies wins an Academy Award, Indians will go mad as everyone has been dying to win it for a long time. He also said that winning an Oscar will prove to be good for the Kiran Rao directorial as it will be able to reach more people across the globe.
In an interview with BBC News India, Aamir said, “I am not quite sure how seriously to take a competition. But I would be really happy. It would create tremendous opportunity for the film to be seen by a lot more people because when a film wins an Oscar or Academy award, then people from around the world want to see what it’s like. So it opens a huge window of opportunity for a larger audience for a film."
He added, “More important than that, I think Indian are so film crazy and we have been dying to win an Academy Award for an Indian film which hasn’t happened till now. So the country would go ballistic. They will just go mad if we win. So just for the people of our country, I would be very happy if we win the award."
Only three Indian films (Mother India, Salaam Bombay!, Lagaan) have managed to get nominated in the Best International Feature category at the Academy Awards.
On the work front, Aamir will be seen next in Sitaare Zameen Par, which is set to be released next year.
