Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane will soon be directing a prison-drama series for Netflix titled Black Warrant. The show will be a dramatized adaptation of the book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer.
As per a press release shared by the makers, set in the 1980s, Black Warrant is a fictionalized retelling of certain true events told from the perspective of Sunil Gupta, a timid rookie jailer at Tihar Jail, as he confronts the brutal realities, high-profile cases, and complex power dynamics within Tihar’s walls.
The cast for the series is still under wraps.
Talking about adapting the book, Vikramaditya said, "Black Warrant is a book that is raw, intense, and authentic and immediately demands to be brought to life. Collaborating with Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Confluence has been incredible, and I am grateful to have had partners who have supported me and the team in telling this story the way it deserves to be told.”
Vikramaditya has previously directed Sacred Games (2018) and the recent CTRL (2024) for Netflix.
The show will be presented by Applause Entertainment and will be produced under Vikramaditya’s home-banner Andolan in association with Confluence Media.
