Director Vikramaditya Motwane took to Instagram on Tuesday to express his disappointment as shows of Payal Kapadia’s Cannes Grand Prix winning All We Imagine As Light were snuffed out owing to the release of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule. He made a sarcastic comment, after Payal’s film got nominated in two categories at the Golden Globes 2025.
Vikramaditya posted a screenshot of a Book My Show window displaying the show timings for Pushpa 2: The Rule on his Instagram stories and wrote, “And yet, Payal’s incredible success will mean nothing to us because we will throw her film out, not let it breathe or find an audience, and we will have 36 shows of one film in a single multiplex. Congratulations. We deserve this.”
On Monday night, Payal became the first Indian woman filmmaker to be nominated in the Best Director category for the Golden Globes. Before her only acclaimed director Shekhar Kapoor had bagged the nomination for his film Elizabeth in 1998. Apart from the Cannes win, All We Imagine As Light has also bagged the Best International Film award at the New York Film Critics Circle and the Gotham Awards. It was also named as the year’s best film by the prestigious film magazine Sight and Sound.
Pushpa 2: The Rule, on the other hand, released in theatres on December 5 and has been breaking box-office records. It has earned Rs 598.98 crore since its release, according to Sacnilk.com.
Meanwhile, All We Imagine As Light hit the theatres in India in limited screens on November 22.
