Vidhu Vinod Chopra recently spoke about his daughter Isha’s fight with bipolar disorder and said that his job was to take on her stress during the entire period. Isha recounted her experience of dealing with the disorder in the book ‘Order in Disorder’.

In an interaction with Times of India, Vidhu said, “My job was to take on her stress. That’s the first thing the caretaker or family should do. I hate to make this comparison, but since I am writing a fantasy, I have to say it: like the Sugar Manthan, the family has to take the poison out of the mind of the family member who is suffering, hold it, and bear with it.”

He also revealed the reason why he thought her writings can become part of a book. He said that since many people face mental health problems, the experience of his daughter can help them in accepting what they are going through. He also suggested her the name of the book. “I genuinely believe that many people need to find that order, and this book could be of great help,” the filmmaker added.

He also talked about the first time he heard that she was not doing well, leaving him shocked. He didn’t know what bipolar disorder was until their family doctor diagnosed her with it. “Thanks to his guidance, I understood that it’s a condition like any other, and we needed to fight it together as a family,” he said.

On the work front, Vidhu’s last release as a director was the Vikrant Massey starrer 12th Fail, which earned him a lot of critical acclaim and did well at the theatres when it released last year.
