Ali Abbas Zafar is set to collaborate with Yash Raj Films (YRF) after the failure of his last directorial Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, according to some online reports. He has earlier worked with YRF on films like Sultan (2016), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Bharat (2019).
A source told Variety, “We are sure Ali will scale greater heights as he creatively collaborates with Aditya Chopra on multiple big budget tentpole projects for YRF. The two haven’t yet locked the projects that Ali will now direct at YRF. But we can confirm that these will be original theatrical projects.”
Ali’s earlier collaborations with YRF have mostly fared well at the box-office starting with his debut, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011) which earned Rs 94.10 crore, according to Sacnilk, on a budget of Rs 28 crore. Tiger Zinda Hai and Sultan are among his biggest hits, both starring Salman Khan in the lead.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, on the other hand, turned out to be a huge failure at the box-office and was criticised for its lacklustre screenplay and the scattered chemistry among its leads. The film made a total collection of Rs 65 crore, according to Sacnilk, when mounting on a heavy budget.
