IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack trailer: Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur in a story of a plane hijack that lasted for seven days

The trailer for Anubhav Sinha’s upcoming hostage-drama show IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack was unveiled on Monday. The limited series stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, along with Anubhav regulars like Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa.

The trailer shows Vijay in the role of a passenger flight pilot whose plane gets hijacked. Back on the ground, authorities huddle in order to formulate plans to negotiate with the militants. Naseeruddin Shah plays the role of an official trying to make dealings with other countries in order to rescue the passengers. Pankaj Kapur is a minister trying to pull strings and minimise casualties. “Think a thousand times before taking a life, but don’t even think once before saving one,” he says.

The series is based on the 1999 hijack of Indian Airlines Flight 814, which was taken over by militants for seven days as soon as it took off from Kathmandu, Nepal. It was on its way to Delhi but on the behest of the militants was re-routed to several locations, including Amritsar, Lahore, Dubai, and was finally landed in Afghanistan’s Kandahar, which was under Taliban rule.

The series also features Arvind Swami, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Anupam Tripathi, Kanwaljeet Singh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sushant Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Rajeev Thakur and Yashpal Sharma.

It is slated to release on Netflix on August 29.
