After moviegoers who went for a show of Stree 2 witnessed the teaser of Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming epic Chhava, it was officially released for the general public on Monday. Directed by Laxman Utekar, who has collaborated with Vicky previously on Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023), the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Ashutosh Rana and Divya Dutta. Chhava tells the tale of the gallantry of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha kingdom.
The teaser opens with an ongoing battle on the banks of a river. We see an armoured Vicky Kaushal galloping into the action. He jumps atop a fort and slashes enemies with his sword. A voiceover introduces his character. “Chhatrapati Shivaji is called sher(lion) and what do you call the lion’s son? Chhava!” In subsequent cuts we see Vicky singlehandedly fighting a sea of enemies. Akshaye Khanna is also seen, unrecognizable in the role of Aurangzeb. “Shiva (Shivaji) went but left behind his thinking,” he says, menacingly. The teaser concludes with Vicky’s Sambhaji Maharaj sitting royally on a throne.
Chhava is produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films. Rashmika will play Sambhaji’s wife Yesubai in the film. The film is slated to release in theatres on December 6.
