The trailer of Angry Young Men, a three-part documentary series on yesteryear’s writing duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, known popularly as Salim-Javed, was released by the makers on Tuesday. It features interviews with Javed Akhtar, Salim Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan.
The trailer begins with an interaction with Salman as he notes that he has never been as nervous as he is talking about his father for the film. The story of Salim-Javed and their writing triumphs is told through the eyes of those who saw their growth and eventual downfall. Towards the end, Amitabh appears and speaks fondly of the two. The trailer is filled with many of their memorable dialogues that have been part of films like Deewar (1975), Zanjeer (1973) and Sholay (1975).
The series marks the directorial debut of editor Namrata Rao, who is known for editing films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008), Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010) and Kahaani (2012) among others.
The writer duo worked together on over 24 films from 1971 to 1987. After that, they parted ways and their split has been a point of discussion even now. Javed continues to write songs for films while Salim has been away from working in films for a while now.
Angry Young Men is produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment and Tiger Baby, with Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti serving as executive producers. It will be released on Prime Video on August 20.
