Vinay Shukla’s documentary While We Watched gets a release date

Vinay Shukla’s documentary While We Watched will be released on the streaming platform MUBI India on May 24, the makers announced on Saturday. The film follows the life of former NDTV journalist Ravish Kumar and poses questions on the changing nature of media in the country.

Sharing a teaser of the film, the makers wrote in the caption, “@shukla__vinay’s riveting, internationally acclaimed documentary follows one of India’s foremost reporters on his quest to stand up for the fourth estate. WHILE WE WATCHED arrives May 24.”

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2022, where it won the Amplify Voices Award. Its Asian premiere was at Busan International Film Festival the same year where it won the Cinephile Award.

Recently, the film got nominated for the Peabody Awards, which honours the best in the field of non-fiction including radio, news, documentary and public service.  

While We Watched is backed by UK's Lono Studio and BritDoc Films. It is produced by Luke W. Moody, Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla.
