Coming down heavily on film institutes not teaching "modern and relevant skills," director Ram Gopal Varma said film institutes are a sham.

The Rangeela director pointed out that the institutes are still training students with "outdated syllabus structure." He adds that instead of focusing on contemporary successes like Kantara and KGF 2, the institutes are still teaching about classics like Citizen Kane and Battleship Potemkin.

He went on to accuse the Film and Television Institute India in Pune for not producing any big talents other than a handful of people like Ketan Mehta and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Ram Gopal Varma last directed two-part political thriller Vyuham and Shapatham, which is based on the events revolving around the untimely death of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The first part released on March 2 this month and the second part on March 8, this year.
