The trailer of the second season of Jaideep Ahlawat, Sonali Bendre and Shriya Pilgaonkar-starrer The Broken News was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. The series, based on the television news media industry, features Jaideep and Shriya as rival anchors Dipankar Sanyal of ‘Josh 24X7’ and Radha Bhargava of ‘Awaz Bharti’ channel. Dipankar is a sensationalist reporter while Radha is shown as a journalist who wants to ‘present the truth’. Sonali plays the role of editor Ameena Qureshi.
The trailer for the second season shows Radha, previously incarcerated due to Sanyal, now released on bail. She is poised for a comeback, determined to cleanse the broadcasting system by dismantling Dipankar and his manipulative tactics. Recognizing that unbiased news reporting alone cannot combat Josh 24x7's propaganda, she is prepared to engage in unorthodox methods to purge the corrupt system. In Radha's absence, Ameena shoulders the responsibility of fighting the battle for truth, alone. Dipankar's brand of ‘sensationalist’ news dominates TRPs but he is compelled to utilize it to further his personal and corporate agendas.
Sonali Bendre, who made her OTT debut with the series, said, “We truly were ecstatic with the response to the first season and I am glad that we are returning with another season. In the first season, Ameena and Radha were a team however, in this new season, Ameena will be fighting the battle for truth on her own. “
Talking about his character, Jaideep Ahlawat said, "Playing Dipankar has been a true delight and it was great getting back together with the gang of The Broken News.”
Shriya Pilagoankar added, "This show holds a special place in my heart, and I've been eagerly anticipating its comeback for quite some time now. The dynamic between Radha and Dipankar is going to be intensely personal this season, as they both strive to outmaneuver each other at every turn.”
Directed by Vinay Waikul, The Broken News season 2 will start streaming on ZEE5 from May 3.
